WTC Foundations in Kingdom Theology 'Live' Course Code of Conduct

At WTC we exist to transform people through life-giving theology in the presence and power of the Spirit. We achieve this through reimagining learning in community. As part of making our Foundations in Kingdom Theology Course at WTC a welcoming and collaborative community, we have established this Code of Conduct which details the expected behaviour of students on the course. By agreeing to this document, students are agreeing to each point listed below. Students found to be in breach of this code may be removed from an impacted teaching session or withdrawn from the course. If you feel for any reason you cannot agree to this policy, please contact foundations@wtctheology.org.uk

Fostering a Generous Learning Environment

All students are expected to:

  1. Treat fellow students and teachers with respect.

  1. Take questions and answers seriously and give due consideration to views held by others, including those views which differ from their own. This should include respectful use of language when discussing ideas as presented by other students, the teacher, or those views held in the history of the church.

  1. Allow the direction of the class to be guided by the teacher, and allow the teacher to control the learning environment and pace of learning.

Respecting Fellow Participants and Teachers

WTC seeks to foster a culture of dialogue and inclusion and as such will not  tolerate discrimination in its teaching sessions or discussion groups. This may include but is not limited to, discrimination on the basis of: race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, neurodiversity, or religion.

Students should be aware that academic discussions may involve topics on which there are profound and deep disagreements. Students are expected to treat these discussions with care and agree to avoid using hostile, discriminatory, or derogatory language. Anyone in breach of this expectation may be removed from the impacted teaching session or, if the incident is deemed serious enough, may be withdrawn from the course. Additionally, students are expected to engage respectfully with everyone in the learning community.

Online Behaviour and Etiquette

In accordance with WTC’s Privacy Policy (here), WTC will not give out personal contact details of students without the express permission of the student(s) in question. Students will be given access to an online Moodle account, which includes a discussion forum as well as all course details and resources, and students are advised to use this discussion forum to engage with their cohort. Students can share their own contact details, but are advised that they do so at their own risk.

Students agree not to abuse the trust placed in them by fellow students. Any instance of harassment or bullying should be reported to WTC, who will deal with the matter in line with WTC’s Complaints Policy (here). Students responsible for such acts may be removed from the course. All students agree to take care with their words and actions.

As this programme takes place online, students should follow standard video calling etiquette. This includes but is not limited to:

  1. Muting one’s microphone when not speaking.

  1. Keeping the camera on to allow students and teachers to see and engage with each other.

  1. Not interrupting the teacher or other students.

  1. Appropriate use of the ‘chat’ function. This function will only be available for student-to-teacher communication, meaning that student-to-student interaction will not be possible. As such, the only two reasons to use this function will be a) If directed to make comments or ask questions by the teacher; or b) to signal to the session leader that there is a problem. In any such communication, the same standards of generosity and respect apply here as in all course communication.

Course Attendance and Certificate

Students accept that in order to receive a Certificate of Attendance they are required to attend at least 50% of the teaching sessions for the course. Please note that teaching sessions will be recorded. Since engagement in the Q&A is part of participation, attendance on the night in question will be used for the Certificate of Attendance. Students agree to not record or share the teaching sessions which they attend.

In addition, the Foundations Course (not the Summer School) includes two optional assignments, for which students will receive a pass or fail mark and feedback to help them improve. Students who complete one of these assignments will receive a Certificate of Attainment (50% attendance is still required). A passed assignment may also be submitted as part of an application for admittance to either the Certificate of Higher Education or BA (Hons) validated programmes at WTC.
